No one should lose their day to waiting.
iCivic was born in Gatineau out of a frustration everyone knows: travelling to a public service only to find a two-hour line. We decided to make waiting visible — so you leave at the right time.
One line too many.
It all starts with a passport renewal. Looking online for an appointment, the next available slot was about two months out. I wanted to know if walking in was an option — but there was no information on wait times anywhere. Forty minutes of driving later, an hour and a half in line. The information existed somewhere — just not where it was needed, not at the right time, not in a useful format.
iCivic gathers the wait times of Outaouais public services onto a single map: open health-network and Service Canada data, and GPS-verified community reports. AI models point to the best time to go.
The app is free for citizens and will stay that way. Institutions get a dedicated dashboard to better manage their traffic — that's what funds the project, transparently.
What will never change.
Wait times are public information
Public-service wait times are a matter of public interest. We make them readable, verifiable and accessible to everyone — no account, no paywall.
Built for Law 25
GPS position never stored continuously, data hosted in Canada, no resale of personal data. Period.
Funding comes from institutions
The map, predictions and reports will stay free. The B2G tools are what fund the project, transparently.
Rewarded, never exploited
Every report helps hundreds of people. Scouts earn points and badges — their contribution belongs to them.
City by city.
We'd rather cover one region perfectly than ten regions halfway.
Outaouais
Active beta in Gatineau: hospitals and ERs in real time (open data), Service Canada, walk-in clinics, community reports.
Quebec's major cities
Montreal, Quebec City, Laval — building on the same open provincial data.
Ontario, then Canada
At the pace of the community and institutional partnerships.
